Family Camp Instructor
Cal-Wood Education Center is a 1,200-acre outdoor classroom in the Rocky Mountain foothills, 15 miles northwest of Boulder. We are a non-profit bringing kids and families together with nature driven by outstanding environmental education programming. Cal-Wood is seeking energetic, flexible, hard-working, and motivated applicants for an exciting and rewarding Family Camp Instructor position. Instructors are responsible for providing a fun and active experience for family groups made up of 8 to 10 families, around 40-60 people total per event.
Programs are two-day / one-night, on the weekends throughout the summer. Our staff get to enjoy working and camping with families at national, state, and county parks, with a team of motivated individuals passionate about outdoor activities, natural science, and equity in the outdoors.
Responsibilities:
- Work overnight alongside 1-2 other Cal-Wood Family Camp Instructors, at the location of the family camp (Saturday morning - Sunday afternoon)
- Assist Family Camp Coordinator with gathering and preparing materials for each event
- Support families by instructing them on “how to camp” (help set up tents, camp stoves, prepare meals, etc.)
- Ensure families are safe and comfortable camping outside
- Teach families about survival skills such as: fire building, shelter building, fishing, archery, trail systems, LNT, etc. (You will be trained on these activities)
- Entertain families with various outdoor activities and games
- Put away and clean materials and gear used from the camps
- Drive company vehicles on and off site for camps
- Attend Family Camp Instructor staff training May 16th - 17th at Cal-Wood Education Center *Cal-Wood can provide lodging accommodations on-site for this training*
Qualifications:
- Must have access to a reliable vehicle (preferably 4WD or AWD to drive up/down a steep dirt road)
- Experience and enthusiasm for working with people of all ages coming from diverse cultures and backgrounds
- First Aid/CPR certifications required (can be completed during staff training)
- Spanish fluency required
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check
- Availability to work during weekends of June, July and August
Compensation:
- $400 per weekend worked, returning instructors may earn more pay depending on length of service

El Centro Educativo Cal-Wood es un aula al aire libre de 1.200 acres situada en las estribaciones de las Montañas Rocosas, a 24 kilómetros al noroeste de Boulder. Somos una organización sin ánimo de lucro que reúne a niños y familias con la naturaleza a través de una excelente programación de educación medioambiental. Cal-Wood busca candidatos enérgicos, flexibles, trabajadores y motivados para un puesto emocionante y gratificante de Instructor de Campamento Familiar. Los instructores son responsables de proporcionar una experiencia divertida y activa para grupos familiares formados por 8 a 10 familias, alrededor de 40-60 personas en total por evento.
Los programas son de dos días / una noche, los fines de semana durante todo el verano. Nuestro personal disfruta trabajando y acampando con familias en parques nacionales, estatales y comarcales, con un equipo de personas motivadas y apasionadas por las actividades al aire libre, las ciencias naturales y la equidad en la naturaleza.
Responsabilidades:
- Trabajar durante la noche junto a otros 1-2 Instructores de Campamentos Familiares de Cal-Wood, en el lugar del campamento familiar (sábado por la mañana - domingo por la tarde)
- Ayudar al Coordinador del Campamento Familiar a reunir y preparar los materiales para cada evento
- Apoyar a las familias enseñándoles «cómo acampar» (ayudar a montar tiendas, hornillos, preparar comidas, etc.).
- Garantizar que las familias se sientan seguras y cómodas acampando al aire libre
- Enseñar a las familias técnicas de supervivencia como: encender fuego, construir refugios, pescar, tiro con arco, sistemas de senderos, LNT, etc. (Se le formará en estas actividades)
- Entretener a las familias con diversas actividades y juegos al aire libre
- Guardar y limpiar los materiales y equipos utilizados en los campamentos
- Conducir los vehículos de la empresa dentro y fuera de los campamentos
- Asistir a la capacitación para instructores de campamentos familiares los días 16 y 17 de mayo en el Centro Educativo de Cal-Wood *Cal-Wood puede proporcionar alojamiento en el lugar para esta capacitación*.
Requisitos:
- Experiencia y entusiasmo para trabajar con personas de todas las edades procedentes de diversas culturas y orígenes
- Primeros auxilios / RCP certificaciones requeridas (puede ser completado durante la formación del personal)
- Se requiere fluidez en español
- El empleo depende de la finalización con éxito de una verificación de antecedentes
Compensation: $400.00 per week
